(Dr. Chuck Muth) – I’ve been in the political “biz” full-time for some 30 years now. Obviously, I’ve learned a lot. But I haven’t learned it all. Or things I learned long ago have been long forgotten.
Which is why, despite my longevity in the arena, I still took nine days out of my life to attend the Leadership Institute’s “Campaign Leadership College” outside of DC last October.
And one of our instructors, Ron Nehring – who’s been a successful local candidate in deep-blue California – taught us a campaign tip that makes all the sense in the world and you should definitely use on Friday.
You see, Friday is Flag Day.
And on Flag Day – as well as similar holidays such as Independence Day (not “Fourth of July” if you’re talking to conservative audiences), Memorial Day, etc. – Ron would hop in his car and simply drive all over his district.
And when he’d come across a home flying an American flag out front, he’d stop and knock on their door to express appreciation for their display of patriotism.
How do you think that goes over?
People vote for people they like. And who wouldn’t like being recognized for displaying Old Glory on Flag Day?
You don’t need to make it an overt campaign pitch. Just let them know you’re running for office and hand ‘em your walk piece or business card.
Merely thanking them for their public support of the “USA” will have the desired effect. No “hard sell” needed.
So fuel up the SUV, break out your map, and put the pedal to the metal on Friday.
Some Very Cheerful News!
Back in March I had the pleasure of conducting my Campaign Boot Camp in Missoula, Montana, for dozens of candidates and campaign volunteers. On Sunday, Tom Millett, one of the attendees, made my day by sending the following email…
“Hi Chuck. I attended your Campaign Bootcamp training in Missoula, MT. Just wanted you to know that I won my Primary on June 4th against a RINO who was endorsed by a sitting Republican state senator, endorsed by the incumbent Republican Governor AND backed financially by a RINO PAC!
“I believe that the info you provided during your training was pivotal in my success. I want to specifically mention that you encouraged us to know EXACTLY how many votes we needed to win our election.
“I ‘crunched the numbers’ from the available data and came up with 1200 votes needed to win the primary. I kept this number in my mind throughout the campaign and subsequently received 1266 votes and won my primary.
“The general election is pretty much ‘in the bag’ since my district is heavy Republican (75-25%) and the Dem is unknown, but I’ll still put time in on the campaign trail and make sure my signs are up. Thanks for all the help, Chuck!”
Congratulations, REPRESENTATIVE Millett!
And speaking of Campaign Boot Camp, I’m taking the show on the road to Alamogordo, New Mexico on Saturday, June 22, 2024.
As Morton Blackwell, founder of the Leadership Institute says, “Never miss a political meeting if you think there’s the slightest chance you’ll wish you’d been there.”
Trust me, there’s far more than a “slight chance” you’ll be kicking yourself if you miss this opportunity. Sign up and I’ll see you in ten days!
