This week’s Campaign Hot Tip comes from Richard Viguerie, the most successful direct mail fundraising expert in the conservative movement today – so I’d take his advice below to heart…
* * *
Almost 100% of communications I’ve read, seen or heard from conservative leaders and political candidates this year are making the same serious mistake.
The serious mistake is: Cussing Democrats, urging people to vote early, and contribute money. And nothing else.
Over and over and over conservative organization leaders/candidates say:
-
- Democrats are doing this bad thing – vote Republican.
- Democrats are doing that bad thing – vote Republican.
- I’m 3 points behind, but I can win if you rush me a contribution today.
- I’ve got a plan to beat Harris and win Congress, send money.
- Etc., etc., etc.
There is nothing wrong with the above messages. The problem is what is left out—which is HUGE. And we are not likely to win on November 5th if this continues.
Why? Because Big Media and Big Tech are censoring the news.
If the voters know what you and I know about Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, and other Democrat candidates, Donald Trump will win in a landslide, and we will have a strong Congressional Republican majority.
Of course, Big Media and Big Tech are not going to change between now and election day. What are we to do? It’s simple. Also, not difficult or expensive.
Since you’ve spent the time and money to travel to make a speech, spent money to produce TV and radio ads, or print campaign material—why not also ask your audience to share the information, ads with family and friends?
And since you’re going to print, mail, and buy postage to send acquisition letters or house files, or newsletters asking for donations—why not also urge the recipient to pass your letter onto others or make copies to pass around? Also urge them to visit your website, which should have plenty of material for them to download or forward to others.
Or if you’re at a breakfast, lunch, dinner, or reception raising money—why not also encourage them to talk to family, friends, neighbors, etc. and discuss the issues with them, provide the attendees with material to share with others, including articles, bumper stickers, yard signs, etc.?
Every one of the people you’re communicating with has 25-50-100+ family members, friends, neighbors, coworkers, fellow church members, etc. that are a part of their circle of influence.
They share your views and values. They are also worried, concerned, and frightened about the possibility of losing not only the November 5th election, but losing America.
So – stop thinking of them as an ATM machine.
It’s well known that receiving information from someone you know, like, and trust is significantly more efficient than receiving the same information from a stranger, including people on TV, radio, or newspapers, Internet, etc.
You’ve spent the money to write to them, meet with them, run ads, call on the phone—since you’ve got their attention, why not ask them to take additional action to help, such as forward your letter to family members, or send the attached article, forward a video to some friends, etc.?
