(Chuck Muth) – Back in December I wrote about a candidate bio that didn't stink on ice. If you missed it, click here.
The candidate/elected official is Connecticut State Rep. Kimberly Fiorello, a longtime subscriber to my monthly Psephology Today newsletter. But there's a lot more to her story that explains why she's one of my FAVORITE candidates in the entire country even though we've never met (yet).
Get this…
After publishing the blog post on Rep. Fiorello's bio, I received the following email from Shari Williams, president of the Leadership Program of the Rockies…
“I was so happy to see your reference to Kimberly Fiorello in this email. Terrific spotlight. I had told her to subscribe to your emails about two years ago before she ran for the legislature. She’s taken your advice very seriously and she won!
“She has another wonderful story to tell. She flew once-a-month to Colorado to go through the Leadership Program of the Rockies and get our training. Not easy. Once a month on a Thursday night she flew out of Kennedy Airport – taking the red eye.
“She’d land, get a couple of hours sleep and then attend our program for 8 hours. Then she’d get on another plane to go back to Greenwich, Connecticut and be there in time to wake up her 4 kids on Saturday morning. Now that’s dedication!
“After going through our program, she helped start the Charter Oak Leadership Program in Connecticut, where we teach the ideas of the American Founding and capitalism. And we reference your advice all the time. In some ways, her success story is your success story. Thank you!”
Very kind. Much appreciated. But the credit really goes to Rep. Fiorello. As one of my mentors liked to say many moons ago, “You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him do the backstroke in your swimming pool.”
None of what I teach is worth the proverbial warm bucket of spit if the candidate doesn't IMPLEMENT it. And that's where all too many candidates come up short: They learn…but they don't take ACTION.
After my initial blog post came out, Rep. Fiorello and I connected by phone. What a wonderful, dedicated conservative. Can't wait to meet her in person…
…two weeks from today!
You see, when Rep. Fiorello and I first chatted back in December, she asked if I'd be willing to do my Campaign Boot Camp in her hometown of Norwalk, CT. And despite my old-age aversion to snow and sub-freezing temperatures, I agreed immediately.
So Boot Camp Connecticut is on!
Saturday, March 5 from 9:00 – 5:00.
Details below. Click here to register.
This is gonna be a blast. And, no, there won't be a recording. And, no, I'm not likely to do another Boot Camp back east this election cycle. So…you snooze, you lose. Be there or be square.
Cheers!
